1)"There was a girl who could fly, a boy who had bees living inside him, a brother and sister who could lift boulders over their heads." pg.14
-the quote represents the meaning of “Peculiar”.
Distinctive, Special, and Unique.
Which is what the book is all about. When I think about Peculiar-
-I think about something special
that is not in the normal. Which is what this book is conveying.
2)"Find the bird. In the loop. On the other side of the old man's grave. September 3, 1940."
The quote intends to tell us Jacob has to find what his grandfather said.
It leads us to wonder what is happening and what he meant.
This quote really engages a reader like me because
I want to know what Abe meant, which eventually leads readers
like me to keep reading.
3)“There was no moon and no movement in the underbrush but our own, and yet somehow I knew just when to raise my flashlight and just where to aim it, and for an instant in that narrow cut of light I saw a face that seemed to have been transplanted directly from the nightmares of my childhood. It stared back with eyes that swarm in dark liquid, furrowed trenches of carbon-black flesh loose on its hunched frame, its mouth hinged open grotesquely so that a mass of long eel-like tongues could wriggle out.” pg. 37
And it also puts a kind of a nightmarish scene that can't
be forgotten easily.
This quote shows how this book has a lot of detail
even if it is not shown on picture.
4)"I ripped away the rest of the wrapping paper to find an old hardback book, dog-eared and missing its dust jacket. It was The Selected Works of Ralph Waldo Emerson."
The Quote gives Jacob hope that all of
his hard work Didn't all go to waste.
And to keep on
working to complete his promises
to his grandpa Portman.
This is important to the story because
it leads us to the next step of this story.
And to unravel the
book bit by bit.
5)”he shocked us all by not only signing us off on the idea but also encouraging my parents to let me go.” pg 66
This quote is important because it
kicks off the story of how Jacob might find his answers.
It also builds suspense on how we can foreshadow
what might happen in these next chapters of this book.

I like the quotes because, you picked the ones that describe the main ideas of the section, and spark interest into the reader. The pictures are also great because the emphasise the importance of the quotes.
ReplyDeleteI really like the first quote you used and how you described peculiar. It was well explained.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sarah, your first quote with the description of the world peculiar is well done. I think the whole novel is peculiar! The images add to each of the quotes.
